Soul Guide copy.png

developing a healthy soul in a time of disorientation.

In 2020, we were thrown into a place of disorientation through a global pandemic, the intensification of racial injustice across our country, increasing political division, a growing mental health crisis, the unknown economic environment, among other things.

We want to be a non-anxious presence in our city and help you in the process of reorientation. We have collected a wide array of resources for you that fall into three categories: spiritual & emotional health, mental health, and relational health.

You can’t do everything. Trying to do too much will only lead to deeper levels of guilt, shame, and burnout.

Our prayer is that there is something on this list that will unlock a deeper level of health and freedom in your life. As you look through these pages, pray that God would show you ways to help you maintain a healthy soul in a chaotic and disorienting time.

once you decide what you would like to do, we recommend you:

1. Take a minute to journal what this might look like. Envision who you want to be as you reorient your life. What can you do today to move toward that person?

2. Tell someone you trust. Encouragement from a friend goes a long way. If you’d like, ask if they would be willing to check in on you to see how you’re doing.

we’re all in process.

Leading Old Testament scholar and theologian, Walter Brueggemann, has described the Psalms as a process of orientation, disorientation, and reorientation.

orientation.

Orientation is when we feel grounded and everything seems to make sense in our lives.

disorientation.

Disorientation is when we’ve been knocked from our place and seem to be spinning in a place of doubt, uncertainty, transition, and upheaval.

reorientation.

Reorientation is when we once again regain our footing, we can see how God has been working in the chaos, and we begin moving forward.

disorientation is difficult and uncomfortable.

Disorientation is also often a place where the greatest level of growth can happen. It forces us to look back on the foundation of our life and reevaluate and rebuild what may have been missing or misguided.
